Viewpoints you can’t miss

Monte Caxado Viewpoint (As Pontes de García Rodríguez)

At 756 metres above sea level, it’s the second highest point in the province of A Coruña. On clear days, you can spot the Sisargas Islands and part of the Costa da Morte. Surrounded by the gentle hills of the Faladoira range, it offers a pristine natural setting and fresh mountain air. The place is steeped in legends—like that of a golden yoke hidden in the land.

Perfect for: Watching endless sunsets, taking panoramic photos, and escaping the noise.

Caaveiro Monastery Viewpoint (Fragas del Eume)

This natural balcony over the Eume River canyon is one of the most iconic. It offers a postcard-perfect view of the Monastery of San Xoán de Caaveiro, surrounded by the lush green forest of the fragas. You can reach it on foot via marked trails or by shuttle bus from the visitor centre.

Perfect for: Immersing yourself in the Atlantic forest and combining hiking with history.

Carbueira Viewpoint (Monfero)

Located above the town of Ares, this viewpoint offers a privileged view of the Eume River estuary and the Ares estuary. Nearby, the Andrade Castle rises, adding a medieval touch to the landscape. It’s accessible by car and is a popular spot at sunset.

Perfect for: Enjoying views of the estuary and exploring the historic centre of Pontedeume.

Pico de Vales Viewpoint (Monfero)

At 680 metres above sea level, this viewpoint stands atop Mount Vales and offers a stunning panoramic view of the natural park, with the Capelada mountain range in the distance. From here, you can see much of the fraga forest and the Eume valley. It’s a perfect spot to connect with the wildest side of nature.

Perfect for: Hiking, landscape photography, and birdwatching.

Pena Fesa Viewpoint (Monfero)

This viewpoint, located in the Fragas do Eume Natural Park, overlooks a cliff with stunning views of the fragas and the Eume River winding through the forest. It’s accessible via marked trails within the park and offers a truly immersive experience in the Atlantic forest.

Perfect for: Forest lovers, nature enthusiasts, and landscape photography.

Encoro do Eume Viewpoint (A Capela)

Located near the Eume reservoir dam, this viewpoint allows you to contemplate the large water mirror surrounded by mountains and fragras. In spring and summer, the Located near the Eume dam, this viewpoint offers a stunning view of the vast water mirror surrounded by mountains and fragas. In spring and summer, the contrast between the deep green forest and the blue waters is truly spectacular. The trail is a bit more demanding than others, but the view is well worth it.

Perfect for: Experienced hikers in search of peaceful, scenic landscapes.

  • Check the weather forecast before heading up.
